Husna Hamisi Said

“My dream is to become a paediatrician not just to treat children, but to help reduce child mortality caused by preventable diseases like malaria and sickle cell anaemia. I want to be part of building a healthier, stronger generation.”

My name is Husna Hamisi Said, a Form Five student at Kibondo Secondary School. I come from a humble background, living in a small household with my mother, grandmother, two sisters, a niece, and an uncle. Although surrounded by love, I’ve always longed for the presence of both parents in my life. My father's absence has left a deep void, emotionally and financially.

To support our family, my mother sells breakfast bites in our neighbourhood. Her income, however, is barely enough to cover even the basics. My grandmother, who sells samosas, often ends up contributing more becoming the pillar we all lean on. Life has never been easy, but I’ve learned to rise above the challenges with faith, hard work, and hope.

Education has always been my source of strength. From primary school through my O-levels at Zanaki Secondary School, I dedicated myself to my studies and achieved Division One results. Now in A-level, I remain determined because I know that education is my gateway to a brighter future for myself, and for those I love.

My passion for medicine, especially paediatrics, is deeply personal. I have witnessed how many children in my community suffer from illnesses that could be prevented with better care. I have seen children grow weak from malaria, malnutrition, and untreated conditions that no child should endure. I want to be the kind of doctor who not only treats but changes lives, who stands up for every child’s right to health and survival.

Being selected as a scholar in the Flaviana Matata Foundation (FMF) is truly a blessing. It has given me a renewed sense of hope and purpose. Through this opportunity, I believe I will not only lift my family out of poverty but also contribute meaningfully to my society. This is not just a dream it is a promise. I will work hard, stay focused, and fulfill my mission of creating a better future for the next generation.
