“Getting pregnant while still in school should never mean giving up on your dreams. Mistakes happen but what truly matters is how you rise, how you fight for your future.”
- Rahabu Lugenge
This is the powerful and inspiring story of Rahabu Lugenge, a girl whose courage and determination show that setbacks can be the beginning of something greater. While in Form Three, Rahabu became pregnant a moment that changed everything. Forced to leave school, she faced one of the most difficult periods of her life. It was painful, filled with uncertainty and judgment. But even in those dark moments, she never let go of her dreams.
In 2022, a door opened. Rahabu was granted a second chance through the Flaviana Matata Foundation Scholarship Program. With strength and resolve, she returned to school and bravely repeated Form Three. Her comeback wasn’t easy, but she worked tirelessly, determined to rewrite her story. In 2024, Rahabu proudly completed her secondary education with Division Two a triumph that earned her a spot at Mchuchuma Secondary School for A-level studies. Today, she stands tall not only as a student, but as a young mother who carries her responsibilities with pride, love, and resilience.
Rahabu’s journey is more than just a story it’s a powerful reminder to every young girl that motherhood is not the end of ambition. If anything, it can ignite a deeper sense of purpose. Through the support of FMF, Rahabu found a community that believes in her and supports young mothers to rise, thrive, and dream again.
“I’m so excited to be part of the Flaviana Matata Foundation. This foundation doesn’t just support adolescent girls it also supports young mothers like me. That gives me hope that my dreams will come true.”
Rahabu dreams of becoming a health expert, motivated by a passion to care for others and uplift her community’s well-being. She is walking proof that where you start doesn’t define where you can go and that every girl, no matter her past, deserves a future full of hope, dignity, and opportunity.
